I think that deep down in all of our hearts, we love the thought of “natural living”. For those of you who are not sure of the meaning of “natural living”, let me explain myself.
More and more today, people are turning towards living a more holistic life. What does that mean exactly? Well, depending on the person, “natural living” could mean something different. For me, as well as for you, I am sure, “natural living” means eating foods that grow naturally in our area, it means wearing clothing that are made out of wool and cotton rather than polyester and rayon. It also means using household products that contain natural ingredients instead of toxic mixtures and synthetic fertilizers that can make us sick. It also means we care about the environment that we live in and work very hard to stop the pollution in the world. We prefer organic foods and live as naturally as can be. Now, this doesn’t mean that we are extra-terrestrials and that we don’t use cellular phones or what television. No! We are balanced. That’s all.
It’s pleasing to me to know that every day, more and more people are turning towards “natural living”. They have come to realize that some products out there have caused them to be sick and for some people, sadly, have caused them to get really sick.
So with that being said, if you are one to visit natural health stores, I am sure that you have noticed there exists so many products containing Elderberries. Surprisingly, you will find items that have Elderberries mixed inside them such as cereal and granola bars. The fact of the matter is, Elderberries are filled with antioxidants and Vitamin C. I am not sure if you remember, but Elderberries are very good for building up your immune system, especially this time of the year when everyone around us seems to be sick.
My recipe for Elderberry Gummies
I am not sure if I have told you this, but I love candies! I mean, I am addicted to candies. So, I have to be careful and watch the quantity that I eat, although, I am disciplined no matter what my husband Stan says. I know, he has an “old” name doesn’t he. He is a little older than me but his parents told me that they gave him the name “Stanley” to make sure that no other little boys would have the same name. They wanted it to be as original as can be. Well, let me tell you, it is original, don’t you think?
Ok, back to my gummies. So, this morning when I woke up, I had this crazy craving to eat candies. Yes, in the morning, you read correctly. I meant it when I said that I was addicted. With Christmas just around the corner, I also thought that my little Elderberry gummies could be a great gift for my nieces and nephews. My children aren’t too crazy about them but then again, they aren’t too crazy about candies either. They are more of the salty type. One day, I will give you a great “homemade chip” recipe!
So, again, back to my gummies. It seems as though I am a chatter mouth today. Perhaps it’s because I have been home all day. You see, I just opened up another subject. Alright, here I go with my recipe. By the way, these candies/treats are a terrific source of Vitamin C for your little ones. Instead of the Flintstones vitamins, these are perfect!
What you will need
-High quality gelatin. This is important because some gelatins actually come from animals and were treated with hormones. Gelatin is very good for the skin
-Unsweetened Elderberry juice: you can buy it from your local natural store and you can make it.
-Fun shaped silicone ice cube molds
What to do
Take 1 cup of unsweetened Elderberry juice, ½ cup of hot water, 4 tablespoons of unsweetened orange juice, 5 tablespoons of raw honey and ¼ cup of gelatin powder, mix them all together in a bowl until it all liquidy. (I know, that isn’t a word but I still like to use it)
Put everything into a pan at low heat and whisk until it gets warm, not too hot. Now, this is the fun part. Add a little bit of coconut oil to the molds to avoid sticking, pour the warm mixture into the molds and put everything in the freezer for approximately 20 minutes. The gummies will turn solid and will not melt.
You can choose to wrap them anyway you desire. I like to put them into little glass see through containers. Kids get all excited when they see them!
Get some sleep too
Please be reminded that this is also a great gift for yourself as Elderberry gummies will build up your children’s immune system. There is a great chance that they won’t get sick this winter. Oh, I almost forgot, keep them in the fridge. They are good to last about 1 week.
This Holiday season, let’s all beat the flu and eat Elderberry gummies! I know that I said that they were a great gift idea for children, but they are also great for us! Nothing is going to stop me from eating them all winter long! They are my candy remember!
Elderberry gummies help us get a better sleep. It also calms us down. Why? It’s the gelatin. Gelatin contains high levels of glycine which is known to decrease anxiety and promote sleep. With that in mind, it’s just another positive thing. With all of the movement and excitement of the holidays, with the Elderberry gummies, you are sure to get all of the vitamin and the sleep that you need and desire!
From the bottom of my heart, I wish you and your family an amazing holiday season!
